UNIVERSAL ORLANDO: THE VACATION YOU NEED

UNIVERSAL ORLANDO: THE VACATION YOU NEED

RESORT OFFERS FAMILIES BLOCKBUSTER ENTERTAINMENT, THRILLS, REFINEMENT – AND OVER-THE-TOP FUN

There is only one place in the world where you can do all these things in the same day:

• Experience the pulse-pounding thrill of accelerating from zero mph to 45 mph in two seconds – and then go weightless
• Eat a chocolate-covered bug
• Test yourself against your deepest fears – darkness, speed, fire, the unknown, flesh-eating scarabs – and come out laughing
• Dine at a world-class restaurant
• Be pampered, relaxed – or rocked – at the world-class hotel of your choice.

It is Universal Orlando Resort – the answer to what today’s families need from a vacation. This is not a place where parents simply watch their kids enjoy the same 1970’s-era ride they went on as kids. This is a place where the entire family screams, shouts, laughs and relaxes -- together.

Orlando’s newest vacation destination pushes boundaries and goes where today’s travelers want to go – from exhilarating, high-tech thrill rides unlike any other in the world to luxurious resort hotels that give guests a whole new outlook on life.

Universal Orlando’s two theme parks, Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios, offer some of the most popular attractions ever created. Its three on-site Loews Hotels, the Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel and the Royal Pacific Resort are among the most highly acclaimed in the world. And its entertainment complex, Universal CityWalk, offers some of the hottest, most recognizable entertainment experiences in the world.

“We offer families a resort vacation they can enjoy together - an incredible time away from their every-day life filled with extraordinary experiences,” said Gretchen Hofmann, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Universal Orlando.

Universal Orlando - Everything So Close

One key to Universal Orlando’s success is how easy it is to experience and enjoy everything the destination has to offer.

At Universal Orlando, “on-site” hotel means just that: the hotels are a stroll or quick water-taxi ride away from the theme parks and the entertainment complex, yet provide enough separation so that guests feel they have found the perfect retreat. And in a benefit unique to Universal Orlando, on-site hotel guests can use their room key to gain Universal Express preferred access to attractions, rides and shows throughout the destination.

The closeness of the theme parks to the hotels makes it easy for guests at Universal Orlando to be on the go or do nothing but relax -- all in the same day. It’s a destination where guests can spend the morning playing bocce ball near a semi-private pool at the luxurious Portofino Bay Hotel and spend the afternoon screaming their lungs out as the rocket from zero mph to 45 mph in two seconds aboard the Incredible Hulk Coaster.

World-Class Theme Parks

The Universal Orlando experience begins with its two theme parks. Along with Academy Award-winning producer/director Steven Spielberg as creative consultant, Universal Orlando set out to change the way people think about and enjoy theme park entertainment. Its attractions are based on pop-culture icons and blockbuster films – creating experiences such as the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk Coaster and the Cat-in-the Hat ride at Islands of Adventure -- or Revenge of the Mummy, Shrek 4-D, Men In Black Alien Attack and Twister…Ride It Out at Universal Studios.

The five themed islands at Islands of Adventure are home to some of the most technologically advanced rides and attractions ever made – along with some of the world’s most beloved characters, including Cat-in-the-Hat, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk and the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park. And Universal Studios is the theme park where guests “ride the movies.” Its newest attractions, Revenge of the Mummy and Shrek 4-D are based on blockbuster film concepts and close collaboration between Universal’s creative team and each film’s creative team.

New for 2005 is Fear Factor Live at Universal Studios. Based on the award-winning NBC program, “Fear Factor,” the new attraction marks the first time a reality television show will be transformed into a theme park experience. It is the first NBC television product to be integrated into Universal’s theme parks. Audience members will experience the thrill of the blockbuster series live and guests will compete against each other in a progression of extreme stunts taken right from the show.

“The odds are more in your favor for getting into Harvard than being chosen to appear on Fear Factor,” said show executive producer Matt Kunitz. “With Fear Factor Live, people will now have the chance to participate in some of the same stunts we’ve done on the show.”

Nighttime Entertainment and World-Class Hotels

For nighttime excitement, there is Universal CityWalk, a 30-acre nighttime entertainment complex with a collection of some of the most powerful and popular music and entertainment industry icons ever created: Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, Emeril’s Orlando, Hard Rock Live and dozens more clubs, restaurants and shops.

Helping to round out the entire destination experience are Universal Orlando’s world-class hotels. The luxurious Portofino Bay Hotel, a Loews Hotel, features 750 rooms and re-creates the famed Mediterranean village of the same name; the Hard Rock Hotel features 650 rooms and showcases the unique style of a California mission, complete with Hard Rock touches that range from classic rock ‘n roll memorabilia to bellmen with purple hair. The Royal Pacific Resort has 1,000 rooms and is designed to be the most exotic hotel in North America – complete with an orchid court and hand-carvings straight from Bali.

Luxury and Refinement Never Seen at a Theme Park Resort

The entire Universal Orlando experience is created to be seamless, to come together for guests in completely hassle-free way. The destination is sweeping, but has been planned so that the two theme parks are adjacent to each other and the hotels and entertainment complex are all within walking distance.

The seamless nature of a Universal Orlando vacation begins with Universal Parks and Resort Vacations, Universal’s travel company. Universal’s vacation experts can help guests with everything they need to experience the destination – including airfare, hotel accommodations, theme park tickets and more.

To make their visit to the theme parks hassle-free, all guests can use the Universal Express ride access system to arrange a window of time for preferred access to rides, attractions and shows – allowing them to bypass regular lines. And on-site hotel guests at Universal Orlando don’t need to use Universal Express to beat the lines. They simply show their room key at each ride to receive and enjoy preferred access. And those same on-site guests who purchase souvenirs in the park can have them sent directly to their hotel room at the end of the day.

Beyond the hassle-free factor, Universal Orlando offers a level of true luxury for its guests. Its hotel accommodations are all operated by Loews Hotels and offer dining, daycare, spas and concierge service. And dining opportunities at Universal Orlando include two restaurants by Emeril Lagasse, a Palm restaurant and specialty restaurants across the destination.

In collaboration with the same celebrity talent and creative genius that made the films such hugely successful blockbusters, Universal Orlando opened new Shrek 4-D and Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast attractions this year in back-to-back premieres that would thrill any filmmaker.

Universal's new attractions provide perfect prequels to the highly anticipated sequels for each film. Each attraction features brand-new animation and storylines from the same talent that created the films - along with new voice work from the same celebrities that made the films come alive.

Shrek 4-D picks up where the Academy Award-winning "Shrek" film - one of the most popular animated features of all time - left off. Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast - based on the Academy Award-nominated "Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius" film and many of Nickelodeon's most popular characters ever - transforms theme park guests into action heroes as they help Jimmy save the world - and the hides of such Nick characters as SpongeBob SquarePants, the Rugrats and the Fairly Odd Parents.

The all-new multi-sensory Shrek 4-D attraction features the talents of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow as they return to give voice to the swamp-dwelling ogre, Shrek, his faithful chatterbox companion, Donkey, his bride, Princess Fiona and the vengeful Lord Farquaad in an all-new animated saga that continues the story of the Oscar-winning feature film.

Shrek 4-D

Guests learn there is trouble in the Kingdom of Duloc. The tale begins as Shrek, Princess Fiona and Donkey set off for a honeymoon at enchanting Fairytale Falls. The ghost of Lord Farquaad is intent on taking his revenge and interrupts the honeymoon bliss - and soon, our heroes are face-to-face with Farquaad and other foes as the audience is transported into the center of a thrilling adventure packed with fast-paced sequences that include an aerial dogfight between fire-breathing dragons and a plunge down a 1,000-foot deadly waterfall.

With 12 minutes of all-new 3-D animation, Shrek 4-D bridges the narrative between the first Shrek film and the upcoming sequel from DreamWorks Pictures. Guests use specially created OgreVision glasses that make the screen and theater come alive. Surprising sensory elements help complete the thrill - including specially built seats capable of vertical and horizontal motion and equipped with tactile transducers, pneumatic air propulsion and water spray nodules.

Shrek 4-D is the first major attraction to be introduced simultaneously at Universal theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood and Japan.

Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast rockets into action and brings the famous boy genius to life -- along with the largest collection of Nickelodeon characters ever assembled for a theme park attraction. Jimmy Neutron is the first computer-generated animated character developed by Nickelodeon for television, film, Internet - and, now, theme park use. Guests watch as Jimmy demonstrates his latest invention - the powerful Mark IV rocket. But before too long, evil egg-shaped aliens straight from the Jimmy Neutron film make off with the rocket and threaten to dominate the world - and all the other Nick characters.

Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast at Universal Orlando

Jimmy pulls guests into the action to help him save the planet and his friends. Using sophisticated computer graphics, state-of-the-art ride technology and programmable motion-based seats, Universal's creative team takes guests on a literal crash-course with their fate as they roar, spin, crash and careen into the action and through the universe. In the end, the planet -- and SpongeBob - are saved.

Islands of Adventure

The Islands are Seuss Landing, The Lost Continent, Jurassic Park, Toon Lagoon and Marvel Super Hero Island (my favorite). On some of the rides you need to be prepared to "get wet" as water plays a major role on some islands. The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman is not to be missed. Islands of Adventure was created by leveraging the talents of the legendary movie producer Steven Spielberg and it shows, especially at spectacular attractions like The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman.
